HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR WOUND SITE

Instruction on how to take care of your wound site following a procedure or biopsy at our clinic: 

WOUND CARE POST BIOPSY/PROCEDURE

AFTER YOUR BIOPSY/PROCEDURE:

1. Please keep the wound clean and dry for 24 hours  
2. After 24 hours, remove the band-aid and clean the area with soap and water  
3. Apply Vaseline jelly or Polysporin or Fucidin to the area once daily for a week 
4. Apply a new band-aid, unless you are experiencing irritation to the adhesive  

Please note #3 & #4 are recommended and are not mandatory  

If your biopsy site required a stitch, remember to book a follow up  

  • Sutures on the face are generally removed in 7 days  
  • Sutures on the body are removed 10-14 days after 
 

Patients are advised to contact their dermatologist’s office if they  notice or experience any of the following:  

  • Increased redness over wound  
  • Increased swelling over wound  
  • Increased pain over wound
 

BLEEDING:

  • If you see bleeding on your wound, apply firm pressure for 10  minutes (NO PEEKING!). It is normal for the wound to bleed when the freezing wears off.  
  • If the wound continues to bleed in large amounts contact your  dermatologist or go to the nearest emergency room.
